January 13 comes quietly. With a tiny flame in the window, for some a lump in the throat, and for others thoughts that are hard to put into words. It is a night when Lithuania was especially vulnerable. Yet in that moment, people became greater than their fear.
Today we live surrounded by that light. It has become part of our everyday life, but it is essential to remember that it came at a very high price—tears, pain, losses that still live in our memory.
January 13 does not ask for solemn words. It asks for silence. It asks us to remember, to embrace, to give thanks. It asks us to protect Freedom the way we protect one another—simply, sincerely, every day.
May the light of Freedom live in our daily lives: in our words, our deeds, and our closeness to one another.
As long as it burns within us, Lithuania is safe.
