Kristijonas Mineikis, Head of Strategic Development and IB Middle Years Programme Coordinator at Klaipėda Lyceum, participated in the International Baccalaureate Organization’s global conference, “Our Humanity, Connected.”
This is a global conference bringing together education leaders for three days of professional growth, discussions, and inspiring presentations. The event focuses on transformative professional learning, new perspectives on IB programs, and insights into the rapidly evolving world of education. During the conference, teachers and school leaders were invited to reconsider the skills and competencies young people need today to thrive both academically and beyond the classroom. Emphasis was placed on unique human capacities—self-awareness, empathy, and creativity—highlighting the role of education in preparing students for a future where uncertainty is a constant companion.
Participants had the opportunity to hear insights from distinguished education leaders: IBO Director General Olli-Pekka Heinonen presented ideas from his upcoming book, “Learning As If Life Depended On It,” on the connection between knowledge and wisdom; international development expert Modupe Olateju shared experiences in creating innovative public-private partnership models and foundational education solutions in Africa; and learning ecosystem and innovation strategist Katja Schipperheijn discussed opportunities presented by artificial intelligence for education and fostering students’ thinking skills. The conference explored new ideas to support and strengthen IB programs, analyzed contemporary teaching and learning trends, and discussed student well-being in the context of continuous change.
