In the northern part of Klaipėda, in a picturesque location near the Dangė River and the Botanical Garden, a new Klaipėda Lyceum kindergarten is rapidly being set up, with its opening planned for September 1. This is a unique project, built and prepared for children’s education in less than one year from the issuance of the construction permit.
Starting September 1, the kindergarten will operate at Kretingos St. 90. It is a three-story building that will accommodate around 70 preschool and pre-primary children. Children from the age of one are admitted to nursery groups. About 40 specialists will work at the institution.
Most of the teachers will move to the new kindergarten on Kretingos Street from the Klaipėda Lyceum kindergarten currently operating in Dragūnai, while healthcare specialists and physiotherapists will be additionally recruited. The new kindergarten will offer various health services, including consultations with a physiotherapist, psychologist, and speech therapist, as well as massages, inhalations, and music therapy. The private kindergarten fee includes 25 additional services.
A unique feature – a Child Health Center with a swimming pool
The Child Health Center will include a swimming pool, salt room, multisensory space, and a gym. It will be the only kindergarten in Klaipėda with a swimming pool.
“A swimming pool in a kindergarten is not just a unique feature but also an important part of children’s physical development. Regular activities in water strengthen the immune system, improve coordination, and help children feel more confident,” says the future head of the kindergarten, Aušra Kairienė. She notes that the Child Health Center will function not only as a service space but also as a preventive system, helping to identify developmental or health challenges early and provide individualized support.
“This kindergarten stands out not only for its modern infrastructure but also for its holistic approach to the child—education, health, and emotional well-being are combined in one place. Such an integrated system is still rare in Lithuania. The Klaipėda Lyceum kindergarten aims to become one of the most innovative early education centers in the country. With this project, we seek to create an environment where the child is seen as a whole—where their health, emotional state, and educational journey are all important. We want parents to feel confident and children to feel safe and motivated to grow,” says Aušra Kairienė.
Environment designed for exploring nature
The environment of the Klaipėda Lyceum kindergarten is being developed with the nearby Botanical Garden in mind—it is planned to integrate it into the educational process and encourage children’s connection with nature. According to A. Kairienė, the Botanical Garden will become not just a backdrop but an active learning space—children will participate in nature exploration, seasonal projects, and experiential outdoor activities.
Education at the kindergarten will be organized according to the principles of the British education system, focusing on individual child development, independence, and strengthening social skills. This system pays attention to both academic and emotional abilities. According to A. Kairienė, children’s development at the Klaipėda Lyceum kindergarten will be continuously monitored, and parents will regularly receive individual recommendations and insights on their child’s physical, emotional, and social progress.
Admission to the kindergarten is planned from the age of one, and registration is open year-round as long as there are available places. Currently, around 20 places remain available.
