Starting in January 2026, Klaipėda Lyceum will change its governance structure by establishing a board. The chair of the board will be the Lyceum’s current head, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Regina Kontautienė, while the position of director will be assumed by Kristijonas Mineikis. According to representatives of the Lyceum, the decision to establish a board was made to improve management efficiency and to create conditions for the further development of the international school.
Appointed to the board of Klaipėda Lyceum are: attorney Rūta Šimkienė from the law firm “A. Šimkus, R. Šimkienė and Partners,” expert history teacher Vaidas Pamparas, Honorary Citizen of the City of Klaipėda Sigitas Benediktas Jurčys, and a member of the Klaipėda Lyceum community, Director of UAB “Baltkonta” Kęstutis Kairys.
“Over the past years, Klaipėda Lyceum has grown significantly—we have become an international school, established the kindergarten–school ‘Mažasis Klaipėdos licėjus’ (Little Klaipėda Lyceum), the professional art gallery ‘Lyceum,’ the Japanese Language and Culture Center ‘Seito San,’ we are building a new kindergarten facility and planning the construction of a new school. Naturally, the need has arisen to share responsibilities and to address strategic issues collegially,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr. R. Kontautienė.
R. Kontautienė will continue to work at Klaipėda Lyceum as Chair of the Board and Head of Education, coordinating educational and teaching processes. According to her, the transfer of the director’s duties to K. Mineikis has taken place gradually over several years.
The new Director of Klaipėda Lyceum, Kristijonas Mineikis, has been connected with the school for more than 20 years. He has worked at Klaipėda Lyceum for 10 years, and in recent years has served as Head of Strategic Development and Coordinator of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). He is a graduate of the first graduating class of Klaipėda Lyceum and was the school’s first student president. After finishing school, K. Mineikis studied medicine, later chose to study law at Vilnius University, which he completed, and is currently continuing his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University. He is also a member of the Board of the Lithuanian Association of International Baccalaureate World Schools.
