Experiential Learning Day for Grades 3–5

On October 28, students from Grades 3–5 took part in an experiential learning day. Throughout the day, they explored topics such as art, financial literacy, various professions, world countries, sports, sustainability, and ecology.

More about this day:

Class 3a began their artistic exploration with a visit to the Klaipėda Drama Theatre. The students had the opportunity to peek behind the scenes — to see the backstage areas, secret corridors, dressing rooms, and decoration storage. It was a wonderful experience that allowed them to view the theatre from an actor’s perspective.

Class 3v, while learning about financial literacy, met with representatives from SEB Bank. They learned about the history of money, examined old coins, played a trading game, and designed their own bank cards. During a tour of Klaipėda, they discovered that the Birža Bridge used to host trade exchanges, while weekend markets took place in Anikė Square.

Class 3 PYP F explored the history and techniques of shadow theatre, created their own shadow figures, and performed original scripts. Through games and hands-on activities, the students learned cooperation, emotional expression, and strengthened their social and cognitive skills.

While exploring the theme “Who Protects Us?”, Class 4 PYP V visited the Klaipėda Fire and Rescue Service, where they learned about the firefighter’s profession. The children discovered the equipment used during fires, accidents, and other emergencies, as well as the challenges firefighters face every day. They also had the opportunity to “try on” the role of a firefighter and experience what it takes to be part of this important profession.

Class 4r visited the Oginskis Cultural History Museum in Rietavas, where they learned about the Oginskis family’s contributions to Lithuanian history and discovered the location where the first public electric light in Lithuania was lit.

Class 4 PYP G visited the Klaipėda Sportsmen’s House Museum. They learned about the achievements of Klaipėda’s athletes, took part in competitions, and were awarded diplomas and medals.

Class 4k attended the interactive exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci”, where they saw reproductions of Leonardo’s flying, war, water, and construction machines as well as his most famous paintings. They had a chance to try operating a helical helicopter model and lifting objects with a pulley system. The day concluded with a fun bowling activity.

Class 5a visited the Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Center and the ship “Sūduvis.” During the educational activity, students tried to imagine and identify the Baltic Sea environment and animals in the year 2050. The creatively named animals — Cod Celofanus, Seal Padangarus, Porpoise Naftoena Pramonida, Spinyfish Mikroplastus Krapštukedija, and others — encouraged them to explore the meanings behind the names, identify pollution issues, and think of creative solutions. Onboard Sūduvis, they learned about the ship’s history, explored its compartments, searched for clues, and discovered its mission and importance.

Class 5 PYP A visited the Klaipėda Fire Department, where firefighters demonstrated fire-fighting equipment and showed items damaged by fire while discussing safety rules. The students also visited UAB “Naujasis turgus” (New Market), where they learned about small business operations and the profession of a vendor. They completed a series of fun activities.

Class 5 PYP B created projects about countries they had studied, exploring their cultures, symbols, and interesting facts. They also visited the international exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci’s Machines” at the Castle Museum.
