Atlikdami taršos tyrimus gimnazistai ugdo atsakomybę aplinkai/Secondary-school students are developing their sense of responsibility as they participate in a study on pollution

Rugsėjo 9 d. Klaipėdos licėjaus II kl. gimnazistų grupė dalyvavo KU mokslininko dr. A. Balčiūno paskaitoje, kuri vyko I Melnragės paplūdimyje.

On the 9th of September the secondary school IInd-year students from Klaipėdos Licėjus participated in a lecture given by a scientist from KU, Dr. A. Balčiūnas, which took place on the Melnaragė beach. The scientist not only acquainted the students with the core problems of pollution of the Baltic sea, but also performed an experiment with the students: while collecting the trash off the beach the students counted how many pieces of trash were being found in a 100-meter-area in the seaweed and in 100-meter-area in the sand.

An appropriate state of a beach is considered by European standards when in a 100-meter-area only up to 20 pieces of rubbish are found. Unfortunately, the participants of the experiment found that both in the seaweed and in the sand areas over a 100 pieces of rubbish were found and collected.

Let us hope that this and other project initiatives will continue to foster the students’ conscious consumer culture, responsibility and respect for the environment.
